Reservoir of God’s Power — Prophet Tony Mathias

It is certain that whatever seeming calamity happens to you, if you thank and praise God for it, you turn it into a blessing.

Parents will do more for their children when thanked. Can you imagine what God will do when we thank and praise Him Matthew 7:11; Luke 11:13.

As God’s children, we have just skimmed the surface. We are yet to tap the unlimited power of praise. There is much in God’s Word about praise.

Ephesians 1:6, 12. God created man to fellowship with him and praise him for his extraordinary greatness. We cannot repay God for what he has done for us. And that is all the more reason to praise Him. Yet we often petition rather than praise Him. How wonderful it would be if we could just praise and worship Him more often without any petitioning. That kind of praise certainly touches his heart.

“God, why did you let this happen to me?” Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that Satan comes to steal kill and destroy but He came to give us abundant life. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6. We hear of people complaining and blaming God for their problems when He is their way out. And when they do that it hinders their faith and He is unable to help them. Could that be you?

God, in fact, gets us out of trouble instead of putting us in trouble. We must have an attitude of gratitude, then we will experience deliverance in the worst of circumstances.

God says in His Word: “In all circumstances in every situation give thanks, for this is the will of God.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

Praise will turn circumstances around however impossible they look. No matter how high the mountain or black the sky – the mountain will crumble and darkness will turn to day.

The impossible will become possible. Mark 9:23. When we praise Him His blessing will overtake us.

David who wrote many psalms discovered at a young age the secret of praising God and he became a friend of God. When he played in praise unto God it brought anointing down and demons fled 1 Samuel 16:23, so could we. He says in Psalms 34 “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually dwell in my mouth.” It was praise, not grumbling or complaining. He was a man of God’s heart even though he fell in sin because he was quick to repent and praise Acts13:22.

Someone aptly said: “When you wake up in the morning to the smell of breakfast cooking, what do you do? – run to the breakfast table! God’s Word says our prayers rise to him as a sweet smelling aroma Revelation 5:8; 8:3-4. Imagine what happens when God smells that aroma of your prayer of praise? – Praising God helps you tap into the reservoir of God’s power that never runs dry. Psalms 34:2-3; Psalms 100.

Listen to his Word that says: “In the midst of everything give praise and honor to God.” Habakkuk 3:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:18

‘When you do that He will deliver you from your fears and troubles. Psalms 34:4, 17, 19. He will deliver you when you praise Him.

Apostle Paul lived a life of praise which is noticed in how he begins or ends his epistles with praise and thanksgiving so must we if we want to tap into God’s reservoir of power.

Anyone can praise God if all is well but Paul’s did it when even when things went bad 2 Corinthians 11:23-28; Acts 16:25. You don’t hear him complaining or grumbling.

In fact, he and Silas were singing and praising God loudly in prison and what was the result? – Walls shook and people were set free. Praise will shake things. It will put things in order in your life and cause what you don’t need or are hindering you to fall away.

We need to praise and thank God despite difficulties and circumstances. Paul and Silas didn’t murmur and complain.

They sang praises to God aloud. Whatever you need begin to praise the Lord in faith and it will come, things will happen for you through your praise.

When you call those things that are not as though they were praising and thanking God for it, you will see it manifest Romans 4:17.

For that is your faith speaking it forth before manifestation.

Release this reservoir of power through praise and be blessed!

TYPES OF PRAISE

1. HALLAL (haw-lal’)

Halal is the primary Hebrew root word for praise.

The commonly used word “hallelujah” comes from this root word.

Halal means “to be clear, to shine, to boast, to rave, to show, celebrate, to be clamorously foolish.”

Scriptures

  • Psalm 113:1-3 Praise (hallal) ye the Lord, praise (hallal) o ye servants of the Lord, praise (hallal) the name of the Lord.
  • Psalm 150:1 Praise (hallal) the Lord! Praise (hallal) God in His sanctuary; Praise (hallal) Him in His mighty expanse.
  • Psalm 149:3 Let them praise (hallal) His name in the dance: let them sing praises with the timbrel and harp.

2. YADAH (yaw-daw)


To worship with the extended hand.

The giving of oneself in worship and adoration.

To lift your hands unto the Lord.

The opposite meaning is “to bemoan, the wringing of the hands.”

 

 

 

Scriptures

  • 2 Chronicles 20:21 Give thanks (yadah) to the Lord, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.
  • Psalm 63:1 So I will bless thee as long as I live; I will (yadah) lift up my hands in Thy name.
  • Psalm 107:15 Oh that men would praise (yadah) the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.


3. TOWDAH (to-daw)

The Praise of Faith

By way of application, it is apparent in the Psalms and elsewhere that it is used for thanking God for “things not yet received” as well as things already at hand ‘yadah’.

This word is commonly found in connection with sacrifice-applying the giving of thanks or praise as a sacrifice before manifestation. Thanking God for something that I don’t have in the natural. Agreeing with His Word – faith in His Word. This form of praise goes in operation just because His Word is true. “Father, I thank YOU that YOUR WORD is TRUE”.

The carnal mind would fight and ridicule this particular action, but there is great faith in TOWDAH as praise.

The lifting of the hand symbolizes agreement. The right hand symbolizes my covenant with my Father. As I go through the scriptures, God is seen extending His Right Hand to me. That’s the covenant. When He extends His right hand to me, He’s saying to me – ALL THAT I AM IS YOURS, and when I extend my right hand to Him, I am saying “All that I am is yours and I agree with what You’re saying.”

It is the sacrifice that God honors by His performing of miracles.

The ATTITUDE for TOWDAH is: I’m thanking God. I’m agreeing with God that it is as He says. I don’t care what it looks like. I’m agreeing with what His Word says.
Example: Father, I thank You that I am healed.

Scriptures

  • Psalm 42:4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise (to-daw), With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
  • Psalm 50:14 Offer unto God praise (towdah) and pay thy vows unto the Most High.
  • Psalm 50:23 Whoso offereth praise (towdah) glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

4. SHABACH (shaw-bakh)

To address in a loud tone, a loud adoration, a shout!

Proclaim with a loud voice, unashamed, the GLORY, TRIUMPH, POWER, MERCY, LOVE OF GOD.

This word implies that testimony is praise.

The phrase “shout unto the Lord” can be understood as the action of SHABACH.

It is not just being loud. You should have the attitude of putting your whole being into it, an attitude of being totally uninhibited.

Scriptures

  • Joshua 6:20 So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat.
  • Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands, all peoples; shout (shabach) to God with the voice of joy (or triumph).
  • Psalm 145:4 One generation shall praise (shabach) Thy works to another and declare Thy mighty acts.
  • Isaiah 12:6 Cry aloud and shout (shabach) for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

5. BARAK (baw-rak)

Means “to kneel down, to bless God as an act of adoration, to salute.”

To give reverence to God as an act of adoration.

It implies to continual conscious giving place to God. Blessing the Lord, extolling virtue.

There is a sense of kneeling and blessing God as an act of adoration in the word BARAK.

Physical application – To bow, kneel or to do this with the intent in my heart that He is my KING and I yield to HIM. I am acknowledging Him as KING and GOD.

Scriptures

  • Psalm 103 tells us how to bless the Lord and then goes on to enumerate those blessings: loving kindness, satisfaction redemption, honor, renewal. We bless the Lord by remembering all of these things.
  • Psalm 95:6 O come let us worship and bow down; let us kneel (barak) before the Lord our Maker.
  • 1Chronicles 29:20 Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless (barak) the Lord your God.” And all the assembly blessed (barak) the Lord, the God of their fathers, and bowed low and did homage to the Lord and to the king.
  • Psalm 34:1 I will bless (barak) the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

6. ZAMAR (zaw-mar’)

Means “to pluck the strings of an instrument, to sing, to praise”.

A musical word which is largely involved with joyful expressions of music with musical instruments in praise to God.

 

 

Scriptures

  • Psalm 92:1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises (zawmar) to Your Name O Most High
  • Psalm 150 Sing praises
  • Psalm 21:13 Be exalted O Lord, in Thine own strength, so will we sing and praise (zamar) Thy power.
  • 1 Chronicles 16:9 Sing to Him, sing praises (zamar) to Him; speak of all His wonders.
  • Psalm 57:8-9 Awake my glory; awake harp and lyre, I will awaken the dawn! I will give thanks (yadah)to Thee, O Lord among the peoples; I will sing praises (zamar) to Thee among the nations.

7. TEHILLAH (teh–hil-law)

It is derived from the word halal and means “the singing of halals, to sing or to laud; perceived to involve music, especially singing; hymns of the Spirit or praise.”

A spontaneous new song. Singing from a melody in your heart by adding words to it.

This refers to a special kind of singing-it is singing unprepared, unrehearsed songs.

Brings tremendous unity to the body of Christ. Singing straight to God. Can move into tehilah anytime. Singing it the second time would be ZAMAR. It is the praise that God inhabits (sits enthroned on) (Psalm 22:3) God manifests Himself in the midst of exuberant singing.

Scriptures

  • Psalm 22:3 Yet Thou art holy, O Thou who art enthroned upon the praises (tehillah) of Israel.
  • Isaiah 61:3 To grant to those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise (tehillah) instead of the spirit of fainting, So they shall be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
  • Psalm 149:1 Praise the LORD. Sing to the Lord a new song and His praises (teh-hil-law) in the congregation of saints

8. Karar (Dance)

We should dance before the Lord as King David did in the Bible.

Scriptures

  • Psalm 149:3 Let them praise (halal) His name with the dance; Let them sing praises (zamar) to Him with the timbrel and harp.
  • Psalm 150:4 Praise (halal) Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!

When we think of the word ‘Alive’, what comes to our mind?
We think of something that is alive and not dead.

The Bible tell us in Ephesians 2:4-5: “…God, Who is rich in mercy, for His great intense love with which He loved us (even when we were dead in sins) has made is alive together with Christ!”

Are we made alive? If so, then our praise, worship, words should be streaming with life and generating life in the atmosphere. Now my question is… Is our praise and worship (words & songs) of the same level as it was when we were saved, maybe five, ten or even twenty years ago? Well, the Lord convicted me that my praise was the same. We all will agree that if we repeat the same things again and again, it could become routine or even boring.

For example, if we love a popular Indian dish called ‘Biryani,’ could we eat it every day? No! The Bible says that the mercies of God are new every morning. If God comes to us with the newness of His mercies daily, then would it be appropriate to offer the God and maker of heaven and earth – the same routine prayers, praise, and worship? God is creative and He delights in newness.

The Psalmist encourages us to sing new songs to Him Psalms 33:3. He says excitedly in Psalms 40:3 – “He [the Lord] has put a new song in my mouth…” In Psalms 96:1 he tells the whole earth to sing a new song unto the Lord!

Wow! How good and beautiful it is to sing a new song of praise to the Lord! God has put a love song in everyone’s heart. So sing it out to Him. Let Him know how beautiful and amazing He is and how wonderful His works are. Apostle Paul exhorts us in Hebrews 13:15 to offer unto Him a continual sacrifice of praise. He states further in Romans 12:1 that we should present our bodies as a living sacrifice [worship] that would please God. And you can be sure He would be delighted!

In fact, everything in heaven is alive and there is continual singing unto Him. The angels behold His beauty and continually sing new songs to Him.

Beloved of the Lord, He has placed new songs of beautiful praise in your heart. All you need to do is just bring them out!
